After a full day of traveling first by Forman bus and then by airplane, we arrived in Cancun Mexico. Our driver Don Fransisco was there to greet us, and we packed into his bus for a two hour drive to Valladolid. We enjoyed a delicious dinner with fresh guacamole and other traditional dishes. .After dinner, we stepped outside the hotel and walked through the town square where we got to see and hear local Carnival celebrations taking place prior to the start of Lent. There were bands playing traditional music, local population dressed in costumes and people dancing in the town square until 2 am and later. Children had off from school to join the festivities and people had a holiday from work. Thankfully we would begin our journey the next day a bit later at 10am.

Tonight we gathered to share dinner and prepare for our early morning departure. Students each presented their research findings on particular topics in order to help introduce the group to aspects of the Mayan culture..
